What does this do then ?
It runs when you’ve got spare processor power, and lets you use it to help various computing projects. According to GridRepublic (one of the sites that can help you manage your contribution), Boinc’s network is about 12 times as powerful as the world’s largest dedicated supercomputer.

Yeah, I’ve got my work PC on the job too! Can you imagine how much horsepower would be added if large companies had it as part of their corporate builds?
Wouldn’t that be nice – I think a few do, actually. I tried to get my University to put it on their standard boot image, but they thought it was too much of a security risk to be running other people’s code. Worth a try, though – 12,000+ machines – imagine how many work units they could have got through.
